Nintendo has cut off its connection to Twitter, following another decision from owner Elon Musk.
“Elon Musk continues to run X (formerly Twitter) in a variety of questionable ways, and surely one of the oddest is the decision to charge vast amounts of money for access to the site’s API. As such, major firms are dropping integration with the hellsite, the latest being Nintendo. From June 10, you will no longer be able to share screenshots and videos from your Switch to the app.
Time was, Twitter offered access to its API (Application Programming Interface—the mechanism and protocols by which two different pieces of software could communicate) to all who wanted to grab it, to encourage other apps to interact with the social media company’s systems. If you remember the days of downloading those Chrome extensions that would let your Twitter pop out of the taskbar (remember Echofon?), or found a fun site that analyzes the content of your feed, it would be using the API.
