Actress Megan Fox is speaking out about a Republican’s transphobic attack on her children.
Failed Republican congressional candidate Robby Starbuck posted a photo to social media of Fox and her children and alleged without evidence that she was forcing her boys to wear girls’ clothes.
Fox pushed back on the attack, which is one of many prominent Republicans have made against the LGBTQ community in recent months.
“I really don’t want to give you this attention because clearly you’re a clout chaser, but let me teach you something … Never use children as leverage or social currency,” Fox wrote on her official Instagram account. “Exploiting my child’s gender identity to gain attention in your political campaign has put you on the wrong side of the universe.”
Fox also added: “I have been burned at the stake by insecure, narcissistic, impotent little men like you many times and yet I’m still here. You (messed) with the wrong witch.”
In recent months conservatives and leaders in the Republican Party have engaged in a series of attacks on LGBTQ Americans, targeting their gender identities. They have attacked brands like Budweiser and Bud Light for acknowledging LGBTQ Pride.
The conservative movement has a long history of opposition to LGBTQ equality, and in the past opposed equal rights for gay and lesbian Americans. Former Republican President George W. Bush went so far as to propose a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage when he ran for re-election in 2004.
National polling has shown that conservative opposition to same-sex rights is out of touch with the mainstream. A recent Gallup poll indicated that support for same-sex marriage is at 71% and that opposition to these marriages is something of a fringe conservative concern.
